Nanoarchitectonics for inorganic chemistry frontiers

Abstract

An emerging concept, nanoarchitectonics, is attracting attention as a post-nanotechnology concept. Nanoarchitectonics is a methodology to construct functional materials using nano-units such as atoms, molecules, and nanomaterials. This short paper briefly discusses nanoarchitectonics as a frontier in inorganic chemistry. Nanoarchitectonics-related topics described here include high entropy alloys, template synthesis for quasi-subnanometer-sized particles, control of the doping structure of inorganic materials using probe microscope tips, on-surface synthesis and local probe chemistry for graphene related materials, and syntheses of nanocarbon films through interfacial processes. These examples demonstrate that materials of various compositions, shapes, and structures can be created on the basis of the nanoarchitectonics concept.
