Visible light photocatalysis in the synthesis of pharmaceutically relevant heterocyclic scaffolds

Abstract

Visible light and photoredox catalysis have emerged as a powerful and long-lasting tool for organic synthesis, demonstrating the importance of a variety of chemical bond formation methods. Natural products, physiologically active substances, medicines, and agrochemicals all contain heterocyclic moieties. The impact of visible light-promoted chemistry on the functionalization of heterocycles as well as the synthesis and modification of heterocyclic compounds of medicinal importance is summarized in this review.
