The composition and magnetic properties of some iron(III) 1,10-phenanthroline and bipyridyl complexes

Abstract

The isolation of complexes of stoicheiometry [Fe2B4O]X2Y2·xH2O (where B = 1,10-phenanthroline, X = Y = Cl, ClO4, NO3, or ½SO4, or X = Cl, Y = ClO4, or B = bipyridyl, X = Cl, Y = ClO4) is reported. For the chloride complex co-ordination of chlorine to iron appears to occur. The magnetic properties of the complexes over the temperature range 80–300°K have been interpreted using a binuclear spin-free iron(III) model.
