The crystal structures of three 1 : 1 complexes of 1,3,5-trithian with silver(I) salts
Abstract
The crystal structures of three complexes of 1,3,5-trithian with silver(I) salts have been investigated by three-dimensional X-ray techniques: (i)(C3H6S3),AgNO3, which is monoclinic, space group P21/n, with a= 23·81, b= 12·83, c= 5·83 Å, α= 97·8°(unique axis a); (ii)(C3H6S3),AgNO3,H2O, which is orthorhombic, space group Pacb, with a= 11·45, b= 9·63, c= 16·96 Å; (iii)(C3H6S3),AgClO4,H2O, which is monoclinic, space group P21/n, with a= 6·02, b= 10·82, c= 16·24 Å, β= 80·4°(unique axis b).
In the hydrated compounds tetrahedrally co-ordinated silver cations are bound by 1,3,5-trithian molecules to form polymeric sheets, neutral or cationic. In the anhydrous nitrate complex two kinds of crystallographically independent silver cations, one tetrahedrally-, the other penta-co-ordinated, are bound by 1,3,5-trithian molecules to form a cationic polymeric ribbon loosely associated to the anions.
