Structure and infrared spectra of some nitrato-complexes of cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II), and zinc(II) with heterocyclic ligands

Abstract

The structures of fifteen nitrato-complexes ML2(NO3)2[M = Co, Ni, Cu, or Zn; L = benzothiazole, 2-methylbenzothiazole, benzoxazole, or 2-methylbenzoxazole (2-Me-bo)] are discussed with emphasis on their i.r. spectra. With the exception of Ni(2-Me-bo)2(NO3)2 which appears to be polymeric with bridging nitrate, all complexes have bidenate nitrato-groups. Two ‘metal–oxygen’ stretching frequencies are observed for most complexes, and the band separation is related to the nature of the metal–oxygen bond.
