Neutron diffraction crystal structure of trimethyl(nonane-4,6-dionato)platinum(IV)
Abstract
The hydrogen atoms in trimethyl(nonane-4,6-dionato)platinum(IV), (CH3)3(C3H7·CO·CH·CO·C3H7)Pt, have been located by neutron diffraction crystal structure analysis, the geometry of the rest of the dimeric molecule having been established previously by X-ray analysis. Isotropic refinement by block-diagonal least-squares methods for all atoms yielded R 0·149 for 442 observations. The hydrogen atoms of the methyl groups bonded to the platinum atom, and at the extremities of the side chains, complete tetrahedra, as do those of the methylene groups in the side chains. The hydrogen atom bonded to the γ-carbon atom of the diketone completes a distorted tetrahedron around the γ-carbon atom, and occupies a site which is sterically suitable for larger atoms.
