Nucleophilic substitution of α-chloro-sulphoxides

Abstract

Chloromethyl methyl sulphoxide reacts with alcohols, phenol, and thiophenols in the presence of potassium hydroxide to yield the corresponding displacement products, and several other α-chloro-sulphoxides undergo the SN2 substitution with MeS.
