Mass spectrometry of transition-metal π-complexes. Part I. Studies on derivatives of cyclo-octatetraenetricarbonyliron

Abstract

The mass spectra of the cyclo-octatetraenetricarbonyliron derivatives (C8H7R)Fe(CO)3[R = CHO, CH2OH, CH(Me)OH, and CH2OMe] have been examined and compared with those of the free organic ligands. Fragmentation routes have been elucidated by means of high-resolution measurements and deuterium labelling of two of the complexes. The results are discussed in terms of metal-atom control on the fragmentation of the organic ligands.
