Complexes of nickel(II) halides with polymethylenebis(phenylthiourea) compounds

Abstract

The complexing behaviour of polymethylenebis(phenylthiourea) compounds, PhNH·CS·NH·[CH2]n·NH·CS·NHPh (L, n= 2–10), towards NiII halides has been investigated. These new bidentate ligands give a great variety of stereochemistries with NiII. Electronic spectra, molecular weights, and conductivity values have been measured to elucidate the stereochemistry of the complexes obtained. The following complexes have been identified : [NiLX2](X = Cl, Br, or I)(tetrahedral, monomeric, paramagnetic, chromophore NiS2X2); [NiLX2](tetrahedral, polymeric, paramagnetic, chromophore NiS2X2); [NiL2X2](tetragonal, monomeric, paramagnetic, chromophore NiS4X2); and [NiL2X2](square planar, polymeric, diamagnetic, chromophore NiS4).
