We report the first examples of products derived via α-cleavge on photolysis of cyclohexenones; 6-hydroxycyclohexenones afford 2-hydroxycyclobutaneacetic acid lactones (2-oxabicyclo[3.2.0]heptan-3-ones)via a singlet excited state.
