Stereochemistry of the nucleophilic cleavage of cobalt–carbon bonds in organocobalt(IV) compounds

Abstract

The nucleophilic decomposition of 1-methyl-heptylbis(dimethylglyoximato)cobalt(IV) by Cl to form 2-chloro-octane occurs with inversion of configuration at the cobalt-bonded carbon; this is consistent with the view that such a process is a step in the halogen cleavage of metal–carbon bonds.
