Vanadium-51 nuclear magnetic resonance study of sulphido- and oxosulphido-vanadate(V) species
Abstract
The three known monomeric sulphido- and oxosulphido-vanadium(V) species [VS4]3–, [VOS3]3–, and [VO2S2]3– have been identified by high-field vanadium-51 n.m.r. spectroscopy, together with the previously unobserved ions [VO3S]3–, [V2S7]4–, [O3VSVO3]4–, [SO2VSVO2S]4– and the monoprotonated monomers. No equilibria between monomeric species are observed other than for protonation. The observed vanadium chemical shifts can be accounted for quantititatively by simple molecular-orbital theory.
