Synthesis of soluble complexes from a tetradentate dithioglyoxime ligand

Abstract

14,15-Bis(hydroxyimino)-13,16-dithiaoctacosane (H2L) has been prepared from the sodium salt of dodecanethiol and (E,E)-dichloroglyoxime. Only mononuclear complexes with a metal–ligand ratio of 1 : 2 are obtained for NiII or CoII with H2L. Both a mononuclear complex or a polymer can be obtained with PdII depending upon the stoichiometry of the reactants. With PtII only a polymeric product is isolated. For CuII, a trinuclear complex is formed in which the metal ions are co-ordinated to both thia and oxime donors. A heteropentanuclear complex and a heteronuclear polymer have been obtained by the reaction of [Ni(HL)2] with silver(I) and palladium(II) salts, respectively. All these complexes are very soluble in common organic solvents; 1H and 13C NMR, IR and UV/VIS data are presented.
