Volumetric properties of solutions: A novel method of data analysis yielding partial molar volumes and partial molar expansions of solutes
Abstract
A polynomial is used to express the dependence of density for a given aqueous solution on both temperature and molality of solute. The derived polynomial is used to calculate, in a single computational step, the corresponding partial molar volumes and partial molar expansions of the solute. The procedures are used to analyze experimental data for aqueous solutions at ambient pressure containing hexan-1-ol, hexan-1,6-diol and D-glucose. The proposed analytical procedure leads directly to estimates of limiting (i.e. infinite dilution) partial molar volumes and partial molar expansions.
