The enrichment of Pt(iv) ions on Dowex-1X8 and Purolite S-920 ion exchangers from aqueous solutions and their determination using slurry sampling and direct solid sampling graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry techniques†
Abstract
Platinum(IV) adsorption from hydrochloric acid solutions onto two ion exchangers (Dowex 1-X8 and Purolite S-920) was investigated by batch methods for further determination of platinum in geological samples by slurry and direct solid sampling atomic absorption spectrometry techniques. The kinetics, desorption and effect of NO3− and Cl− on the preconcentration step were studied. The maximum loading capacities of Dowex 1-X8 and Purolite S-920 for Pt(IV) were determined to be 100 and 220 mg g−1, respectively. The determination of platinum after preconcentration onto Purolite S-920 was validated by utilizing certified reference materials. The proposed methods were successfully applied to the determination of platinum in real samples after their digestion in aqua regia.
