Long stable cycling of fluorine-doped nickel-rich layered cathodes for lithium batteries

Abstract

Theoretically, layered Ni-rich metal oxides are capable of delivering 200 mA h gāˆ’1. However, their performances deteriorate due to an irreversible surface reaction with the electrolyte, which could be overcome by the partial substitution of fluorine for oxygen. Herein, a fluorine-doped, Ni-rich metal oxide with the composition LiNi0.7Co0.15Mn0.15O1.95F0.05 exhibited a capacity of 170 mA h gāˆ’1 after 100 cycles when tested against lithium.
