Synergistic effects between silicon nanowires and doxorubicin at non-toxic doses lead to high-efficacy destruction of cancer cells

Abstract

We herein provide a synergistic chemotherapeutic strategy by combining silicon nanowires (SiNWs) and doxorubicin (DOX) at nontoxic doses, suitable for high-efficacy destruction of cancer cells. The presented synergistic method can ruin tumors by destroying the cytoskeleton, arresting the cell cycle in the G2 phase, and damaging the mitochondria to release cytochrome C.
