Sustainable valorization of lignin with levulinic acid and its application in polyimine thermosets

Abstract

Here we report a new and facile strategy of lignin modification with sustainable levulinic acid to introduce active ketone groups. The obtained lignin derivative exhibited significantly improved solubility and could be utilized to produce polymers such as high-performance polyimine thermosets via the Schiff base reaction with diamines.
