Hidden piezoelectric performances of BiFeO3-based textured ceramics

Abstract

In our previous work, [00l]-oriented 0.7BFBT textured ceramic (0.7BFBT-T) was prepared successfully, but its d33 value did not increase obviously using the conventional method. In this work, the hidden piezoelectric properties of 0.7BFBT-T emerged after quenching. A suitable quenching temperature (800 °C, T-Q8) increased the content of the rhombohedral phase, leading to a highly distorted structure and magnification of the dipole moment, which was beneficial for enhancement of the polarity. Furthermore, oxygen vacancies were inhibited with increasing quenching temperature, and the domains tended to become larger and more ordered due to the reduced pinning effect. Consequently, a 33% enhancement in the d33 value as well as a Tc of 461 °C were observed in T-Q8.
