Aromaticity, chirality and dimensionality of space
Abstract
The relationship between such notions as aromaticity or chirality and dimensionality of space is discussed. The Hückel (4n + 2) rule is derived from the Hirsch 2(n + 1)2 rule. On an oriented surface, planar and even linear molecules may become chiral so that enantiospecific chemisorption can be used for the preparation of enantiomerically pure drugs.
