Visible-light-induced, base-promoted transition-metal-free hydrogenation of aryl halides with n-butanol

Abstract

We propose an eco-friendly protocol for C–X bond reduction using visible light, eliminating the need for transition metals and performed in air. The desired hydrogenation reaction proceeds through a radical mechanism. Under mild conditions, a broad range of functional groups and heterocyclic compounds are compatible, showcasing its broad applicability.
