Synthesis and structure of chlororuthenacyclopentatriene

Abstract

The first chlororuthenacyclopentatrienes have been realized by the reactions of RuCl2(PPh3)3 with o-phenyldiyne derivatives in the presence of excess HCl. The structures of the unique chlororuthenacycles were fully characterized using spectroscopic data and X-ray diffraction. In addition, computational studies provided evidence for their aromatic character, making them an important supplement to the rare aromatic ruthenacycle family.
