Decarbonylative C(sp2)–C(sp2) reductive cross-coupling of aroyl fluorides with aryl bromides by palladium/cobalt co-catalysis

Abstract

Transition metal-catalyzed reductive cross-coupling has emerged as a powerful tool for forging C–C bonds. Despite significant advances, decarbonylative reductive coupling of aromatic carboxylic acid derivatives remains a huge challenge. Herein, a palladium and cobalt co-catalysis system has been established for chemoselective decarbonylative C(sp2)–C(sp2) reductive cross-coupling of aroyl fluorides with a wide range of aryl bromides, enabling the synthesis of diverse biaryls with moderate to good yields without the use of organometallic reagents.
