Small CdS nanorods via sacrificial synthesis on perovskite nanocrystals – synthesis and hierarchical assembly†
Abstract
Precise control of the size and assembly of semiconductor nanorods (NRs) will enhance emerging photonic technologies. In this work, we introduce a facile, sacrificial-template synthesis of highly monodisperse, small CdS NRs, easing their assembly into ordered structures. The obtained 8 nm wide and 16 nm long NRs have a truncated triangle cross-section and exhibit relatively narrow emission bands at 672 nm. They are fairly stable over time and at an elevated temperature. The uniform and small size of synthesized nanoparticles allow the formation of hierarchically ordered samples, with either vertically or helically arranged NRs. Overall, the developed synthetic method unlocks access to small semiconductor NRs which can form materials with precisely controlled structures at both the nano- and mesoscale.
