Introducing the Materials Horizons Emerging Investigator Series

Since the launch of Materials Horizons, the journal has had a clear vision to publish exceptionally high quality work whilst acting as a resource to researchers working at all career levels. As the journal grows each year, we are increasingly impressed by the quality of the research published and at the same time are looking for new ways of recognising and promoting the outstanding authors behind articles published in the journal.

This year we are launching an “Emerging Investigator Series” as a way to showcase the exceptional work published by early-career researchers in the journal. We will publish an interview-style Editorial article featuring the author alongside their Communication article. We hope that the Series will also benefit the materials science community by highlighting the exciting work being done by its early-career members.

The Editorial Board will select each early-career researcher featured in the Series every month from a list of eligible articles. To be considered for the Series, corresponding authors must be at an early stage of their independent career (typically this will be within 10 years of completing their PhD, but appropriate consideration will be given to those who have taken a career break or followed a different career path). Our authors will shortly be able to opt-in for consideration to be featured in the Series during submission of their article and provide any supporting documents.

In this issue, we are excited to feature our first author in the Emerging Investigator Series, Professor Xinyu Liu.

On behalf of the entire editorial team, we thank you for your support of the journal and look forward to sharing in the success of the journal in future.
