Abstract

Retraction of ‘Two-step naked-eye detection of lectin by hierarchical organization of soft nanotubes into liquid crystal and gel phases’ by Naohiro Kameta et al., Chem. Commun., 2015, 51, 6816–6819, https://doi.org/10.1039/C5CC01464F.


We the named authors hereby wholly retract this Chemical Communications article due to the fact that the paper has wrong electron microscopy images in Fig. 2, Fig. S1 and S3 (ESI) on the part of the first author, who is affiliated with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST).

Fig. 2b and c had incorrect scale bars, which were approximately 19 and 2.4 times longer than the actual lengths, respectively. Fig. 2d (and Fig. S7) was reduced by a factor of about 0.5 in the vertical direction only.

Fig. S1b should have displayed the TEM image of GlcEG1-nanotubes composed of amphiphile 1, TGly and GlcEG1. However, the first author posted the TEM image of GlcEG5-nanotubes composed of 1, TGly and GlcEG5. The incorrect image in Fig. S1b and the correct images in Fig. S1a and c were also found to include errors with the scale bars, which were approximately 2.1, 2.1 and 2.1 times longer than the actual lengths, respectively.

Fig. S3a, b and c should have displayed TEM images of the helical nanofibers composed of GlcEG1, GlcEG3 and GlcEG5, respectively. However, the first author posted TEM images of irrelevant helical nanofibers that were developed by the authors in other studies.

The authors respectfully retract this paper, because these events were determined to amount to scientific misconduct and the retraction of this paper was recommended by AIST. AIST verified that the first author was responsible for the misconducts and no other co-authors were engaged in them.
