Internal standards for 1H NMR spectroscopy in concentrated sulfuric acid

Abstract

This paper recommends the use of dimethyl sulfone and 1,4-dinitrobenzene as internal standards for 1H NMR spectroscopy in concentrated sulfuric acid. These compounds were selected from 8 candidates tested for thermal stability and resistance to outgassing and H/D exchange. The effectiveness of the internal standards was demonstrated by measuring the rate constant of a model decarboxylation reaction.
