Reaction of nitrosocyclohexene with maleic anhydride

Abstract

The reaction of nitrosocyclohexene (II) with maleic anhydride did not yield the expected Diels–Alder adduct, but gave the adduct (III), which, when treated with methanolic hydrogen chloride, yielded the dioxaazaoctanone (IV).
