Cyclisations in anhydrous hydrogen fluoride—a novel tricyclic compound

Abstract

A derivative of diethyl phenylmalonate (1) gave, on treatment with anhydrous hydrogen fluoride, a tricyclic compound (3) and not the expected benzocycloheptane derivative (2).
