The crystal structures of propane-1,3-diammonium tetrachlorochromate(II), a sheet ferromagnet, and bis(dimethylammonium) tetrachlorochromate(II) an antiferromagnetic compound containing isolated [Cr3Cl12]6– units
Abstract
X-Ray crystallographic studies have shown that the ferromagnetic complex propane-1,3-diammonium tetrachlorochromate(II) contains layers of chlorine-bridged [CrCl4]2– units, but antiferromagnetic bis(dimethyl-ammonium) tetrachlorochromate(II) contains isolated chlorine-bridged anions [Cr3Cl12]6– in which the metal atoms are arranged linearly.
