Novel ruthenium(V) dioxo complexes: synthesis, characterization, and reactivity of trans-[RuV(tmc)(O)2]ClO4(tmc = 1,4,8,11-tetramethyl-1,4,8,11-tetra-azacyclotetradecane)

Abstract

trans-[RuV(tmc)(O)2]ClO4(tmc = 1,4,8,11-tetramethyl-1,4,8,11-tetra-azacyclotetradecane) has been generated by electrochemical reduction of trans-[RuVI(tmc)(O)2](ClO4)2 in acetonitrile; it is paramagnetic (µeff.= 1.98 µB) and rapidly disproportionates into trans-[RuVI(tmc)(O)2]2+ and trans-[RuIV(tmc)(O)(OH2)]2+ upon dissolution in aqueous acidic solution.
