Self-assembly and X-ray structure of a ten-component, three-dimensional metallosupramolecular cage

Abstract

Reaction of 1,3,5-tris(pyrazol-1-ylmethyl)-2,4,6-triethyl-benzene 7 with palladium chloride results in the self-assembly of a three-dimensional cage; an X-ray crystal structure determination shows that the cage is comprised of an octahedral arrangement of six palladium atoms bridged by a tetrahedral network of four molecules of the ligand and contains a (disordered) guest molecule of dimethyl sulfoxide.
