Synthesis and characterization of the organocopper–copper halide complex [CuMes*{Cu2Br2(SMe2)3}] (Mes* = C6H2But3-2,4,6)

Abstract

Treatment of 3 equivalents of CuBr with LiMes* (Mes* = C6H2But3-2,4,6) in Et2O at ca. –78 °C afforded, upon treatment with SMe2, the organocopper–copper halide complex [CuMes*{Cu2Br2(SMe2)3}] 1 which has the previously unobserved CuR∶CuX ratio of 1∶2; it is a very rare example of a structurally characterized CuR∶CuX complex without chelating R groups.
