Acid and base assisted topological reorganization of gallium sulfido clusters

Abstract

The reaction of [(tBu)Ga(μ3-S)]4 with nPrNH2 in toluene solution yields [(tBu)6Ga63-S)4(μ-S)2(NH2nPr)2] (1), whose thermolysis in the solid state (110 °C), results in the stoichiometric conversion to [(tBu)Ga(μ3-S)]6H  = 136 kJ mol−1); in contrast, the reaction of [(tBu)Ga(μ3-S)]4 with triflic acid at room temperature yields [(tBu)Ga(μ3-S)]7.
