Complete disassembly of carbon disulfide by a ditantalum complex

Abstract

The side-on end-on dinitrogen complex [PhP(CH2SiMe2NPh)2Ta](μ-H)2(μ-η21-N2) reacts with CS2 with complete cleavage of both C[double bond, length as m-dash]S double bonds and the formation of [PhP(CH2SiMe2NPh)2Ta](μ-S)2(μ-CH2), which has two bridging sulfides and a bridging methylene unit. Further reaction with H2 produces CH4 and the disulfide complex.
