An uncommon highly oxidized multiple bonded Re28+ species

Abstract

A long-sought metal–metal bonded species with an M28+ core has been structurally characterized. The diamagnetic compound {[Re2(hpp)3(OH)(O3SCF3)]2(μ-O)2}(O3SCF3)2, 2, has two σ2π4 electron-poor triple-bonded Re28+ units embraced by three bicyclic guanidinate ligands (hpp) and axial OH and triflate groups; the two dimetal units are held together by bridging oxo-groups.
