Bulky mesoporous TiO2 structure

Abstract

We report a bulky mesoporous TiO2 structure fabricated by direct consolidation of mesoporous TiO2 powder. The mesoporous TiO2 powder with an interparticular porosity, which synthesized by a surfactant-mediated sol–gel method, was consolidated by spark plasma sintering at 350–600 °C. A mesoporous structure in the sintered body was revealed by N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms, and the maximum surface area of ∼131 m2 g−1 was obtained with a porosity of ∼44%. Linear grain growth of the primary TiO2 particle size was observed in the bulky mesoporous structure, and the effects of open pores on the grain growth kinetics were discussed.
