Facile synthesis of highly crystalline ZnO nanorods with controlled aspect ratios and their optical properties

Abstract

Highly crystalline ZnO nanorods with different aspect ratios are prepared by controlling the concentration of the Zn precursor in 1-octyl alcohol and capping agents. UV absorption spectra exhibit absorption peaks around 350 nm, which are red-shifted as the aspect ratio of the nanorods increases. Photoluminescence spectra show intense UV emissions with defect associated broad and weak visible emissions for the as-prepared ZnO nanorods, indicating good crystallinity.
