Abstract

Self-assembly reactions of Co^II ions in the presence of the 2,2-bipyrimidine (bpym) ligand produced both a dinuclear and an octanuclear cation with the nuclearity being governed by hydrogen-bonding versus anion–π interactions between the anions and the ligands.
