1 : 2 charge-transfer complexes of perylene and coronene with perylene diimide, and the ambipolar transistors†
Abstract
The crystal structures and transistor characteristics of (perylene)(CyHex-PDI)2 and (coronene)(CyHex-PDI)2, where CyHex-PDI is dicyclohexyl-perylene diimide, are investigated. These crystals have basically the same mixed stacks composed of one-dimensional DAA columns. The single-crystal transistors show electron-dominant ambipolar transport, where the coronene complex exhibits better performance than the perylene complex. The 1 : 2 composition is an important origin of the electron-dominant transport, not only due to the easier one-molecule hopping than the two-molecule hopping but also due to the direct interchain acceptor–acceptor interaction.
