Pleurocorols A and B: rearranged steroids from the fruiting bodies of Pleurotus cornucopiae

Abstract

Pleurocorols A (1) and B (2) with unprecedented carbon skeletons were isolated from the fruiting bodies of Pleurotus cornucopiae. The structures of compounds 1 and 2 were determined by using spectroscopic data and X-ray crystallography as 11(9 → 8)abeo-ergostane and 5(6 → 7), 11(9 → 7)diabeo-ergostane steroids, respectively. Their inhibitory effect on nitric oxide production and their cytotoxic activity against cancer cell lines were evaluated.
