Sulfonylation of aryl boronic acids by sulfonyl fluorides in water under visible-light irradiation†
Abstract
Visible-light-mediated in-water cross-coupling of sulfonyl fluorides and aryl boronic acids was explored in the absence of transition metal, providing an efficient and environmentally benign method towards diaryl sulfones. Moreover, as a stable, modifiable, and readily available sulfonyl radical source, sulfonyl fluorides enable the sulfone synthesis under mild reaction conditions with high functional group tolerance.
