Hydrophobic diamine-functionalized ionic liquid for effective transformation of CO2: a bridge to achieve separation and recycling processes in homogeneous systems†
Abstract
In this work, a hydrophobic diamine-functionalized ionic liquid [MAMIm][PF6] was easily synthesized for the transformation of CO2 and halohydrins to cyclic carbonates, serving as a dual catalyst and acid-acceptor. Benefitting from the basic –N(CH3)2 site, this IL could promote this reaction under mild conditions with a high yield of cyclic carbonates. More importantly, by virtue of its hydrophobicity, the IL could be readily recycled and reused by simple washing. The synergistic effect of the basic –N(CH3)2 site and hydrophobic anion is expected to provide new insight in the development of novel catalysts for this reaction.
