Sulfonylation/cyclization of alkynes with sulfonyl chlorides by copper catalysis

Abstract

Herein, we report an effective copper-catalyzed cascade strategy for the synthesis of sulfonylated benzothiophenes, where the sulfonyl source used in the reaction system is a commercially available bulk sulfonyl chloride. This approach avoids multi-step synthesis of sulfone radical precursors and the use of expensive photocatalysts, as well as shows good functional group tolerance.
