Metal ions control configuration and 1O2 generation capacity of hexaphyrin(2.1.2.1.2.1) with embedded benzene

Abstract

Group 10 metal complexes of figure-of-eight–shaped hexaphyrin(2.1.2.1.2.1) with embedded benzene were revealed. Mono-Ni(II) 1Ni and bis-Pd(II) 2Pd complexes were obtained. Inspection of the crystal structure of 2Pd showed two Pd(II) ions coordinated with six N atoms and two Pd(II) ions bridged by a Cl atom accompanied by rotation of one pyrrolic unit. The structures and 1O2 generation studies of 1Ni and 2Pd under yellow laser beam irradiation indicated that the molecular structural and physicochemical properties of hexaphyrin(2.1.2.1.2.1) can be regulated and controlled by inserted metal ions.
