Improvement strategies for water-based zinc-ion battery zinc anode stability
Abstract
Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have emerged as promising energy storage devices due to their safety, non-toxicity, low cost, and high theoretical capacity. However, zinc anodes are prone to dendrite formation, corrosion, and hydrogen evolution during the long-term plating/stripping process, which results in low coulombic efficiency and reduced cycle life. Aiming at the aforementioned issues, this paper reviews strategies to enhance the stability of the zinc anode, including electrolyte additives, zinc anode modification design, artificial interface coatings and high-performance separator design. Finally, based on the challenges faced by zinc anodes, future research directions are proposed.
