A persepctive of the scope, role, production and transmission of hydrogen as an energy source

Abstract

An account is given for the increasing demand for fuels in the last two centuries. The significance of accelerated global climatic change is described and the need to achieve net zero. Accessible energy options are analysed. The scope, role and economics that hydrogen can play in the future is examined. Relevant properties of hydrogen as a fuel is provided and discusses the challenges and benefits of using hydrogen as fuel. Aspects of transmission of hydrogen and available ways of production of hydrogen are evaluated. Section headings: 1.Introduction This section briefly describes the massive increase in fuels especially fossil fuels burnt since the Industrial Revolution. 2. Global warming and achieving net zero This details the signifance of global warming on long term climate change, on life on earth and the urgency to achieving net zero 3.Energy options for the future Energy options for th future including conventional electricity generation, nuclear electricity, solar, wind, wave and tidal power are discussed. 4.Hydrogen as a future energy source Hydrogen as a future energy source is examined in detail including the scope, role and economics. 5. Relevant properties of hydrogen Relevant properties of hydrogen such as energy produced per kilogram, flammable range and comparisons with other fuels and the amount of CO2 produced by different fuels are described. 6. Production and transmission of hydrogen Methods of producing hydrogen and aspects of long distance transmission of hydrogen is anaslysed. 7. Discussion This section further examine future energy options and why hydrogen needs to be a crucial part of the future energy provision. 8. References
