Electronic structure and bonding in endohedral Zintl clusters

Despite many different views on the bonding in endohedral Zintl clusters, the relationship between their valence electron count and their structure and bonding patterns is much more uniform than previously anticipated, as highlighted in this article.

About this collection

This themed collection, Guest Edited by Louise Berben (UC Davies), Stefanie Dehnen (University of Marburg) and Yasuhiro Ohki (Nagoya University), will focus on all types of clusters including those with metal-metal bonds and those in which the metal atoms are bridged by non-metal atoms or ligands. The collection will focus primarily on clusters for which the atomic structure is well-defined using X-ray crystallographic techniques, but will also include clusters for which alternative structural characterization techniques have been employed. In addition to a focus on the synthesis, electronic and magnetic properties of clusters, the issue will discuss their applications in a broad scope of areas including energy storage and catalysis.
