About this collection

This issue of RSC Sustainability publishes the Regional Winners of the 2024 annual Essay Competition, Young Voices in the Chemical Sciences for Sustainability, which was organized and managed by the International Organization for Chemical Sciences in Development (IOCD) and sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

 The theme of the 2024 IOCD Essay Competition was “How can the chemical sciences contribute to ‘decarbonizing’ the energy sector and to eliminating the generation or release of greenhouse gasses from large-scale manufacturing and agricultural processes?

 This collection showcases the seven regional winning entries of the competition.
