Valorization of harmful substance upon chemical recycling polyvinyl chloride
Abstract
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) due to the high chlorine content and the presence of biohazardous plasticizers, the traditional recycling process including incineration and landfill will cause greater environmental harm. In this paper, the ways of producing harmful substances in PVC during traditional heat treatment were analyzed, including the release of chlorine elements, greenhouse gases and plasticizers. According to the source of these harmful substances, the corresponding environmental protection process is selected from the three aspects of chlorine, hydrocarbons and plasticizers, aiming to reduce the environmental pressure caused by waste PVC and play the value of waste to avoid waste of resources. The results show that there are recycling methods with little environmental harm and certain economic benefits in all aspects, but it is still difficult to integrate these methods to form a set of PVC recycling processes with both economic and ecological benefits.
